What's in a game?

I'd like to try my hand in making one, but I (obviously) have no experience in doing so. It would be something easy to do, like a flash game, or java, or what do I know. Is it easy? I'm not much of an artist, or programmer, so it feels like I'm setting off to fight bears with a squirt gun. Any hints?

Any way you choose to go, you will need a lot of knowledge. First, decide on what type of game you want.

Online 1 player game.
Online MMO - Browser Based.
Online MMO - Install Based.
Offline 1 player game.
etc..

Pick your platform.
Flash - Better left for 1 player online games.
Java - Runescape is Java.
C/C++/VB/VB.NET/J++/etc... - Downloadable games that do whatever you want.
PHP/ASP/CFM - Nearly all online games played in your browser use some type of this.


Do you have a timeframe that you would like to release in?

What is your expected user base/target market?

What kind of graphics do you want? Still shots? Animations? etc.

There are a thousand questions that need to be asked when deciding on what type of game you want. AoD is fairly simple. It's PHP with a couple small javascripts for effect.

I have in mind a flash game, no fancy multiplayer or super complicated gameplay.

for timeframe, I'd say it shouldn't take more than a few weeks for capable artist/programmer, I'm not designing a super open end game here, it's more or less a strategic shoot em up sort of. The idea isn't concrete.

As for a user base, I'd say it's a game that could be played by anyone, but it'll probably have a name that shouts out, shooter!

The artwork should be simple animations. I don't want a processor intensive game, just one that doesn't look like a kindergartener drew it (aka me).

The theme of it could be anything, and I mean anything at this point. space ships, flying critters, hell I could make it one of those shape type games, like tetris attack or something.

I wanna know if it would be a feasible thing to learn flash and whatever art programs I need to make this work, or try to find willing partners (and more importantly free -.- ) I have a bit of a lazy personality, and now is not the best time for me to do something like this, unless flash games make you money >.>
